Wisps of wishes

This Christmas I wish for days instead of hours to spend with the people I came home to see. It seems my list does not match that which is expected of me and because of that my time with the ones that matter most TO ME is limited.

But in my heart I wish for days spent laughing and talking with those friends from far away who I see far less often than I'd like.

That friend who, in spite of the fact that our time together has dwindled down to once a year visits that cram the best of our memories into too short a space, we can still crawl into one another's heads with ease, finishing thoughts and sentences like an old married couple. For you - I wish for road trip time, hours in the car with our favorite music, visiting beaches that we know and maybe new ones we discover along the way. I wish for the tree trimming party I must miss. The Big Stop, the Farmers markets (in both cities - what the hell?). I wish for time for all of these....

And for you, I wish for airport meetings and stealing you away from your own set of those same expectations. I wish for an escape from the everyday. A drive in the country to discover a new view. A cozy pub and a beer. Or two.

And on that same night....

Gandalf the Grey got up on stage and sang Mustang Sally and House of the Rising Sun. It was surreal.

(Or maybe it was Magneto?)

My apologies...

... to all the musician types that I know, who've had to hear the requests over and over. But I don't care how cheesy it may be, I will never ever tire of being in a bar that feels like you're below deck of a tall ship, smelling the water and sipping ale, and singing along to MerriMac, Sonny's Dream, Farewell to Nova Scotia, Barrett's Privateers, The Wreck of the Mary Ellen Carter, Marion Bridge........

Never Never Never!!

Mischief

... I can hear it in your voice, lying just under the undisguised enthusiasm. Just like when I see you with my mind's eye, you always have that look in your eyes. Mischief.

"Oh, it's you!"

Yes it's me and I can't wait....
