Mini roadtrip afterglow

(this was originally titled "mini roadtrip hangover" because I'm strangely tired today but it seemed too negative to describe something I enjoyed so much)

Delightful!

It was quite unambitious as far as roadtrips go - no real destination except to pick up that and drop off those. But no real schedule either - and those are the best kind!

And so we drove, we four, in the red chariot with endless tunes of our choosing as our soundtrack to the day. We drove across prairie and into true farm country. We drove until we found water and trees and a lighthouse (in the prairie - who knew?!) We drove 'til we hit gravel and beyond (until finally it seemed best to turn around - we could see the gravel, in that way you can see prairie roads, going on forever into the distance without a crossroad. And besides - those hats and boots on the fenceposts were creepy)

A well-intentioned picnic in the cold wind and endless en route snacking provided our nourishment; and a brief rest on a red couch on a green hill re-energized our day. And we laughed. All the way we laughed and talked (and had lessons in graphic design) and there was running commentary on the scenery, the other drivers, music, CD art, porn ( though only briefly and at the very end)... my stomach hurt from the laughing.

And at the end, for the drive home in the dark, when somehow the exhaustion of sitting in a car all day did me in, there was a comfortable near quiet ( never total quiet with Newfoundlanders in the car) and a shoulder to lean on while I slipped in and out of sleep.
